Eid day came with an extra gift for me in form of a milestone achievement 😌😌

I was in the sitting room tired as I had just gotten home from where the ram was slaughtered and had not eaten since morning.

Khalil came to announce to me that he was going to poop. It was a usual part of our routine and he does this to let me know so I can keep and eye on him and not forget him in the bathroom 😅😅(it has happened many times before) i usually assist him with cleaning up after he poops.

A short while later i heard water pouring and then followed by the sound of toilet flushing.

Yes!!🙌 He cleaned up by himself for the first time without any support and honestly I was so relieved. I had my suspicions that he had started cleaning himself up but that was the first time it happened in my presence.

If you have been following our journey for the past 2 years you will know that this has been on the top priority of our goals and I have been working hard on it to ensure he achieves this milestone sooner.

I started really slow with one small step at a time until all I did was just help him pour water while he washes with his hands. Then i started stepping back and guided him through using his two hands and showing him what to do.

Multitasking is not easy for children on the spectrum. He can only use one hand for one function at a time and this was another additional challenge for him.

He can now use both pouring water from a bowl method and using the toilet spray to wash himself 😌😌

I will still need to teach him how to use wipes/tissue in cases where these two options are not available.

It might seem like nothing to other parents but when you have a child on the spectrum who happens to have motor skills challenges you appreciate the little things others might take for granted.

Looking back now it was such a slow process honestly that i often wondered how long it would take him to get it.

Alhamdulillah it’s now history.

As i am typing right now he just used the bathroom again and went out like a boss. 💃💃💃

I will share another post about why this was priority for me.

I share to encourage others moms with younger kids experiencing challenges and wondering when will it be possible for their kids to achieve a certain important milestone.

It is possible but you must be available to do the work. This what I do with my clients as an autism mom coach.

Khalil was fully potty trained at three and half years and we are just celebrating him cleaning up by himself. Early intervention is key😇

To celebrate this milestone, I am offering the discounted fee for my annual Potty Training Workshop for parents on the 21st of June. I would love to see more parents join and benefit from this opportunity.

As I will always say…

Alhamdulillah always 😌😌😌

PS my son Khalil turned 10 in march.
