This past Saturday, at the park, my son Khalil and I had a playdate with a new friend and their child on the spectrum. But what truly stole the show was an incredible moment of pure, unconditional love and kindness.
Not long after we arrived, I noticed Khalil walking towards another exit, his eyes fixed on a boy leaving with his family. He probably didn’t know how to call out, just kept staring. Suddenly, the boy looked back, saw Khalil, and yelled out in pure excitement, “KHALIL!” He ran back to meet my son, arms wide open, giving him the most authentic, warm hug I’ve seen anyone give Khalil in a long while.
My son responded without a single word, but the boy kept talking to him, then said goodbye, leaving as if meeting Khalil was the highlight of his day.My friend and I watched, completely mesmerized. She turned to me and said, “Now that is a child with the purest of hearts, full of love and compassion.”I wish I could have captured that moment.
They were quite far plus I didn’t want miss out on the beautiful scene that captured my attention 😌😌I haven’t been able to get over it. I’m on a mission to find that kid and his parents – I want to thank them for showing us such a rare kind of kindness.🤞
Our children are so often ignored just because they don’t understand how to verbally express themselves. They sometimes show love and friendship in ways others might deem “weird,” making some kids uncomfortable or scared. I know taking our children outside their comfort zones can be really tough on us as parents. But moments like this, those rare gems we encounter outside, are incredibly encouraging. Even if it’s only one or two such experiences out of ten outings, they make a huge impact, not just on me, but on my child.
They fuel my desire to keep going out, keep exploring, and keep believing in the goodness in the world.
Truly autism is the proof that love needs no words💙💙Have you ever witnessed a moment of unexpected kindness that deeply impacted you or your child?
